Method
Cocktail
Prepare the glass
If using a salted rim, pour smoked sea salt onto a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass (or coupe) and dip the rim into the smoked sea salt to coat lightly. Set the glass aside.
Build and chill
Fill a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice (about 1 cup). Add 2 oz reposado tequila, 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 0.5 oz orange liqueur to the shaker.
Shake
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted on the outside. This chills and dilutes the cocktail to balance the spirit-forward reposado.
Strain and serve
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over one large ice cube or a few medium ice cubes. If you prefer a neat presentation, use a chilled coupe and skip the ice.
Garnish and finish
Express an orange peel over the drink (if using) to release oils, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink, or simply float a lime wheel on top. Serve immediately.
Optional adjustments: For a slightly sweeter cocktail, increase agave syrup by 0.25 oz. For a brighter, more tart profile, increase lime juice to 1 oz. If you want to emphasize the reposado's smoke and oak, use smoked sea salt and an expressed orange peel to add aromatic complexity.
