Method
Infused Spiced Water
Simmer spices
In a small saucepan combine 6 oz (about 3/4 cup) of water with the cinnamon stick, whole cloves, star anise and sliced ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer uncovered for 4–6 minutes to extract aromatics. Do not boil vigorously; you want a gentle simmer so flavors infuse without becoming bitter.
Remove the pan from heat and let the spices steep in the hot water for 2 minutes off the heat for additional aroma. Taste a small spoonful: the water should be warmly spiced and aromatic but not overpowering.
Assemble Hot Toddy
Stir in 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice.
Add 2 oz Herradura Añejo tequila and gently stir to integrate. Taste and, if desired, add a splash (up to 1/2 oz) more tequila for a stronger version.
Garnish & Serve
Serve immediately while hot. Provide a small spoon or the reserved cinnamon stick for stirring. Sip slowly to enjoy the warming spices and the tequila's oak and vanilla notes.
