Limoncello Cream Base

Method

Simple Syrup

1

Infused simple syrup

Combine 0.5 cup granulated sugar and 0.5 cup water in a small saucepan. Add 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest. Warm over medium heat, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves and the syrup just comes to a simmer (do not boil vigorously). Remove from heat and let the lemon zest steep for 10–15 minutes to extract bright citrus oils.

2

Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a heatproof bowl or jar, pressing lightly on the zest to extract liquid. Discard the solids. Cool the syrup to room temperature (about 15–20 minutes) before using.

Limoncello Cream Base

3

Combine cream components

In a medium mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, pour 1 cup cold heavy cream and 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk. Whisk briefly to combine so the condensed milk is evenly distributed.

4

Add limoncello and flavor

Stir in 1 cup limoncello and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add the prepared lemon-infused simple syrup to taste; start with 1 tablespoon (to add sweetness and lemon perfume) and increase up to 2 tablespoons if you prefer sweeter, more citrus-forward cream. Mix until smooth and homogenous. Taste and adjust: add up to 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice if you want brighter acidity (the recipe includes 1 tablespoon).

5

If a thicker, slightly aerated texture is desired, whip the mixture on low speed for 20–30 seconds — do not overwhip; you want a pourable, creamy texture rather than stiff peaks. Chill the limoncello cream in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and to attain a pleasantly cold serving temperature.

Garnish and Serve

6

Serving suggestion (single serving)

Fill a chilled coupe or rocks glass with one to four ice cubes as preferred. Pour approximately 4–6 ounces (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup) of the limoncello cream into the glass. Gently stir once. Garnish with a lemon wheel or a long lemon twist perched on the rim. Optionally, grate a little extra lemon zest over the top for aroma.

7

Store any leftover limoncello cream in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Stir gently before serving; if separation occurs, whisk briefly to recombine.
