Cocktail

Method

Garnish / Glass Prep

1

Prepare glass

Chill a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. When ready, hold the rim of the glass and dip it into a shallow dish with chocolate syrup to rim or create a swirl inside the bowl. If rimming, rotate to coat evenly; if swirling, spoon a little syrup into the glass and tilt/rotate to create decorative streaks. Place the glass in the freezer or fridge briefly while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Prep garnish

Use a vegetable peeler or microplane to make chocolate shavings/curls from a chocolate bar. Set aside in the fridge so they stay firm until serving. If using cocoa powder, have a small fine mesh sieve ready for a light dusting.

Cocktail

3

Combine ingredients

Into a cocktail shaker, add 6 ice cubes, 2 oz vodka, 1 oz chocolate liqueur, 0.5 oz coffee liqueur (optional), 1 oz heavy cream (or half-and-half), and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink.

4

Shake

Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–20 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and the mixture is well chilled and lightly frothy from the cream.

5

Strain and finish

Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared chilled martini or coupe glass to remove ice shards and any solids. If you used the chocolate-swirled interior, drizzle a little extra chocolate syrup on top in a spiral if desired.

6

Garnish and serve

Sprinkle the chocolate shavings or curls over the top of the cocktail and, if desired, very lightly dust with 0.25 tsp cocoa powder through a fine sieve. Serve immediately.
