Method

Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a separate bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the sugar mixture and continue beating until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs, one at a time, to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  6. 6

    Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool Base

Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Beat Butter

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and pale.

  2. 9

    Add Powdered Sugar

Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined. Increase the speed and beat until fluffy.

  3. 10

    Add Cream and Vanilla

Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract to the frosting and mix until smooth and spreadable.

  4. 11

    Color the Frosting

Divide the frosting into two bowls. In one bowl, add blue food coloring and mix until desired color is achieved. In the second bowl, add black food coloring and mix until combined.

Decoration

  1. 12

    Frost the Cake

Spread the blue frosting evenly over the cooled cake base. Use the black frosting to create owl-like patterns on top, mimicking feathers.

  2. 13

    Add Decorations

Sprinkle the edible glitter over the frosting for a snowy effect and add white chocolate shavings for added texture.
