Fries

Method

Fries Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into evenly sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl of cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps to make them crispier.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Ensure they are as dry as possible to prevent oil splatter during frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). This may take about 10 minutes. Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the right temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder to taste. Toss gently to ensure even coating.

  7. 7

    Serve the Fries

Serve the fries immediately while hot, either plain or with your favorite dipping sauces.
