Method

Cake Preparation

1

Prepare the Cake Batter

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.

2

Combine Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water until well combined.

3

Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.

Spiced Orange Crème Preparation

4

Make the Crème

In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar, orange zest, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Continue to whip until stiff peaks form.

Assembly

5

Assemble the Gâteau

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of spiced orange crème over the top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining crème. Serve with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
