Salad base

Method

Salad base

1

Prepare lettuce

Wash and dry romaine lettuce thoroughly. Chop into roughly 1-inch pieces and place in a large salad bowl or on a serving platter.

2

Prepare tomatoes

Halve cherry tomatoes (or dice regular tomatoes into bite-size pieces). Scatter evenly over the chopped romaine.

3

Prepare eggs

If eggs are not yet cooked: place eggs in a saucepan, cover with cold water, bring to a gentle boil, then cover, remove from heat and let sit 10–12 minutes. Cool in ice water, peel and quarter each egg. Arrange quarters on the salad.

4

Prepare avocado

Halve, pit and dice the avocado. Toss the avocado lightly with the optional lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange on the salad near the eggs and tomatoes.

Proteins & toppings

5

Cook and prepare bacon

Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain, then chop or crumble into bite-size pieces.

6

Prepare chicken

If using leftover or rotisserie chicken: shred or slice into 1/2-inch pieces. If cooking fresh: season chicken breasts lightly with salt and pepper and cook in a skillet over medium heat with 1 tbs oil for 6–8 minutes per side (or until internal temperature reaches 74°C / 165°F). Let rest 5 minutes, then slice or shred. Arrange chicken in a row on the salad or scatter across the top.

7

Add bleu cheese

Crumble bleu cheese and sprinkle evenly over the salad in a separate row or scattered for even flavor distribution.

Dressing

8

Make the dressing: in a small bowl or jar combine olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, honey, minced garlic, salt and black pepper. Whisk vigorously or shake in a jar until emulsified and smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

9

Dress the salad: drizzle desired amount of dressing over the assembled salad just before serving (about 2–3 tbs per serving, or use all for a lightly dressed large salad).

Assemble & serve

10

Arrange components: Traditional Cobb presentation places ingredients in neat rows — chicken, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, avocado and bleu cheese — over the bed of romaine. Alternatively, toss gently to combine.

11

Serve: slice into portions or serve family-style with extra dressing on the side. Enjoy immediately so avocado remains fresh.
