Preparation

1. Prepare the Strawberries

Wash the fresh strawberries under cold water, remove the stems, and slice them in half.

2. Make the Port Wine Sauce

In a medium saucepan, combine port wine, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.

3. Marinate the Strawberries

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the port wine sauce to cool slightly. Pour the sauce over the sliced strawberries and gently toss to coat. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes at room temperature.

4. Assemble the Dish

In serving bowls, place a scoop of French vanilla ice cream, then spoon the marinated strawberries with their sauce over the ice cream. Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
