Cooking & Finishing
Method
Batter
Combine dry ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and fine sea salt until evenly distributed.
Combine wet ingredients
In a separate bowl or large measuring cup, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly frothy.
Make the batter
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. The batter should be smooth with a few small lumps—avoid overmixing to keep the sliver dollars tender. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes to hydrate the flour and allow baking powder to start working.
Cooking
Scoop batter & cook
For each sliver dollar, pour 1 tablespoon of batter into the preheated pan to form small, thin, round pancakes roughly 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) in diameter. Space them so they do not touch. Cook until small bubbles form on the surface and edges look set, about 45–60 seconds.
Flip & finish
Carefully flip each sliver dollar with a thin spatula and cook the second side for 20–30 seconds, until lightly golden and cooked through. Transfer cooked sliver dollars to a warm plate in a single layer; keep warm in a low oven (about 200°F / 95°C) if making large batches.
Refresh pan as needed
If the pan becomes dry or pancakes start to brown too quickly, add another 1/2–1 teaspoon of oil and lower the heat slightly.
Serving & Finishing
Plate
Arrange sliver dollars in small stacks or overlapping on serving plates. If desired, place a small pat of unsalted butter on top so it melts over the warm pancakes.
Garnish
Dust lightly with powdered sugar and scatter fresh berries or sliced fruit around the stack for color and freshness.
