Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill.

2

Fill mixing glass

Fill a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with the ice (about 1 cup) to thoroughly chill the liquid as you mix.

3

Measure and pour

Measure 2 oz Grey Goose vodka and 0.5 oz dry vermouth and pour them into the mixing glass over the ice.

4

Stir the mixture vigorously with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled (or shake for 10–12 seconds if you prefer a slightly more aerated, colder drink). Stirring gives a clearer, smoother martini-style cocktail.

5

Prepare glass

If you used ice water to chill the glass, dump it out now. Optionally, run a lemon peel around the rim for aroma.

6

Strain and garnish

Strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared martini or coupe glass. Express the oils from the lemon peel over the surface by holding it over the drink and giving it a quick twist, then drop the peel in as garnish.

Optional rinse / variation

7

Dirty variation

If you prefer a Dirty Grey Goose, add 0.5 tsp olive brine to the mixing glass with the vodka and vermouth, stir with ice as above, and garnish with a single green olive on a pick instead of the lemon peel.

8

Rinse or bitters

For an aromatized variation, rinse the chilled glass with a few drops of dry vermouth (pour in, swirl, discard excess) before straining, or add 1 dash orange bitters to the mixing glass prior to stirring.
