Preparation Steps

1

Prepare the Steak

Season the strip steak with salt and pepper on both sides. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

2

Fry the Shallots

Thinly slice the shallots. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat and add the sliced shallots. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

3

Make the Aioli

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise and steak sauce until combined. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

4

Assemble the Sandwich

Slice the hoagie roll in half. Spread the steak sauce aioli on both sides of the roll. Layer the sliced steak on the bottom half, top with fried shallots, and place the top half of the roll over it.

5

Serve with Fries

Serve the New York steak sandwich alongside a generous portion of fries.
