Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

3

Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, combine the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.

4

Combine Mixtures

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients while mixing. Stir until just combined.

5

Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin.

6

Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7

Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

8

Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with an electric mixer until creamy.

9

Add Cocoa and Sugar

Gradually mix in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Beat until fluffy and well combined.

10

Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

11

Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, and then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
