Preparation

1. Chill

Ensure the Modelo Especial is well chilled (ideally 3–5°C / 37–41°F). If not pre-chilled, place in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or in ice for 20–30 minutes.

2. If you plan to serve directly from the bottle or can, remove cap or tab just before serving.

Optional rim and glass service

3. Salt rim (optional)

If you want a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the outer lip of the chilled glass. Dip the rim into a shallow plate with 1 tsp coarse salt, rotating to coat evenly. Tap off excess.

4. Add ice (optional)

If serving in a glass with ice, add 4 ice cubes to the glass. Note: many purists prefer no ice to preserve carbonation and intended flavor.

5. Pour beer

Hold bottle or can at a slight angle (~45°) and pour slowly down the side of the glass until about two-thirds full. Straighten the glass and pour gently to create a 1–1.5 cm (about 0.4–0.6 in) head. This preserves carbonation and aroma.

6. Finish and garnish

If desired, squeeze a lime wedge over the beer and drop it into the glass or serve the wedge on the rim or plate. Serve immediately.

Direct bottle or can service

7. If serving straight from the bottle or can, open just before handing to the guest. Optionally provide a chilled glass and a lime wedge on the side. Do not pour if guest prefers to drink from bottle/can.
