Americano
Method
Americano
Heat water
Heat clean water to 175–185°F (80–85°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a near-simmer and let it sit 30 seconds. Measure approximately 6 fl oz (about 180 ml).
Pull espresso
Grind and dose coffee for a single shot (commonly 7–9 g depending on your espresso setup). Tamp evenly and pull a single espresso shot (about 25–35 ml) directly into your serving cup.
Combine
Pour the hot water into the cup containing the espresso. Traditional Americano is espresso first, water second, but you may reverse the order if you prefer a different crema experience. The typical ratio here is 1 shot espresso to about 6 oz hot water.
