Preparation & cleansing supplies

Herbal support (optional)

Method

Prepare cleansing tonic

1

Make base tonic

Pour 8 cups filtered water into a large pitcher. Add 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt. Stir until the salt dissolves completely. If you prefer a slightly sweet balance, add 1 teaspoon raw honey or a small pinch (about 1/4 tsp) of grated jaggery and stir until dissolved.

2

Optional herbal infusion

If using herbs, lightly bruise 6 fresh mint leaves, add 1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh ginger and 1 teaspoon fennel seeds to the pitcher. Allow the mixture to steep for 10–20 minutes at room temperature for a mild infusion. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a clean container to remove solids before consuming.

3

Temperature & serving

Serve the tonic at cool-room temperature or slightly chilled. For internal cleansing practices, drink slowly in small sips rather than large gulps. Typical single-use amount is 1 cup (240 ml), but follow the recommendations below for timing and frequency.

Shuddi Kriyas practice guidance

4

Timing: Perform this cleansing tonic in the morning on an empty stomach when possible. Drink 1 cup (240 ml) slowly. Wait 15–30 minutes before eating or performing additional cleansing practices such as neti, kapalabhati, or other kriyas. The saline-lemon tonic hydrates, provides gentle electrolytes, and supports mucosal cleansing.

5

Sequence suggestion: 1) Sit quietly for 2–3 minutes and take a few slow deep breaths. 2) Drink 1 cup of tonic slowly. 3) After 10–15 minutes, practice nasal cleansing (neti) if you perform it, followed by pranayama or gentle kapalabhati if appropriate. 4) Finish with warm water or light breakfast after 30 minutes.

6

Safety notes: Use non-iodized salt (kosher or sea salt) for a mild saline solution. Do not use excessive salt — keep to the recipe amounts. Those with high blood pressure, kidney disease, or on a sodium-restricted diet should consult a healthcare provider before using this tonic. If you experience dizziness, nausea, or any adverse reaction, stop and seek medical advice. Pregnant or breastfeeding people should check with their clinician before beginning cleansing routines.

7

Storage: Store any unused tonic in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. Discard if cloudy or if herbs have been left in more than 24 hours. Re-stir before use.
