Sausage Option (choose 1)

Method

Sausage Option (choose 1)

1

Bring to room temperature

Remove 1 sausage link from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes while you preheat the pan. This ensures more even cooking.

2

Heat a nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat until hot, about 2–3 minutes.

3

Add 1 teaspoon olive oil to the pan and swirl to coat.

4

Place the sausage link in the skillet. Cook undisturbed for 3–4 minutes to develop a brown crust on the bottom.

5

Turn the sausage occasionally so it browns evenly, lowering heat slightly if it is browning too fast. Total browning time should be 6–8 minutes.

6

To ensure the sausage cooks through without burning, add 1 tablespoon water to the pan and cover loosely with a lid for 3–4 minutes (this steams the interior).

7

Uncover and continue to cook uncovered 1 minute to evaporate excess moisture and re-crisp the exterior. The internal temperature should read 160°F (71°C) for pork sausage.

8

Remove from the pan; season lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Let rest 2 minutes before serving.

9

Serve with 1/4 cup warmed marinara sauce and a sprinkle of grated cheese and chopped parsley if desired.

Meatball Option (choose 1)

10

Bring to room temperature

Remove 1 raw meatball from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature 10–15 minutes while you preheat the pan. This helps it cook evenly.

11

Preheat a skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until hot.

12

Add 1 teaspoon olive oil and swirl to coat the pan.

13

Place the meatball in the skillet. Sear on all sides, rotating with tongs, until a brown crust forms—about 2–3 minutes per side (6–8 minutes total depending on size).

14

If the meatball is thick and browning quickly externally, add 1 tablespoon water to the pan and cover loosely. Steam for 3–5 minutes to finish cooking through. Internal temperature should read 160–165°F (71–74°C) for typical beef/pork blends.

15

Uncover and cook 1 minute more to evaporate liquids and re-crisp the exterior.

16

Transfer the meatball to a plate, season lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, and let rest 2 minutes.

17

Serve topped or sauced with 1/4 cup warmed marinara, and finish with grated cheese and chopped parsley if desired.

Serving / Finishing

18

If using sauce: warm 1/4 cup marinara in a small saucepan over low heat or microwave for 30–45 seconds until hot.

19

Place the cooked sausage or meatball on a plate, spoon the warmed sauce alongside or over it, and sprinkle with 1/2 tablespoon grated cheese and 1/2 tablespoon chopped parsley if using.

20

Serve immediately. Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
