Sambuca Ingredients

Method

Sambuca Preparation

  1. 1

    Steeping the Anise

In a pot, combine the anise seeds and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Straining the Mixture

Remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool slightly. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove the anise seeds, leaving you with an anise-infused water.

  3. 3

    Making the Syrup

In a separate saucepan, combine the anise-infused water with sugar. Heat gently while stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool.

  4. 4

    Combining Ingredients

Once the syrup has cooled, mix in the high-proof alcohol, stirring well to combine.

  5. 5

    Bottling

Pour the sambuca into a clean, sterilized bottle. Seal tightly and let it rest for at least 24 hours before using to allow the flavors to meld.

  6. 6

    Serving

Serve sambuca in a small glass, optionally garnished with a star anise piece.
