Hotdog and Bun

Optional Cowboy Add-ons

Method

Prepare Hotdog and Bun

1

Heat Hot Dog

Bring a small pot of water to a gentle simmer (do not boil vigorously). Add the 1/4# beef hot dog and simmer for 4–5 minutes until heated through. Alternatively, you can grill over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side until nicely charred and warmed.

2

Toast Bun

While the hot dog heats, spread the butter evenly inside the hot dog bun. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the buttered bun cut-side down for 1–2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp. Remove from skillet and keep warm.

Assemble Cowboy Toppings

3

Place the hot dog into the toasted bun.

4

Spread 1 tablespoon yellow mustard in a thin line along one side of the hot dog and 1 tablespoon ketchup along the other side.

5

Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons diced white onion evenly over the hot dog.

6

Add 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish on top of the onions for sweetness and texture.

7

Top with 6 pickled jalapeño slices arranged across the length of the dog for a spicy kick.

8

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons shredded cheddar cheese over the hot dog so it begins to melt from the residual heat. If you prefer the cheese melted further, place the assembled hot dog briefly (15–20 seconds) under a broiler or in a hot skillet with a lid.

9

If using optional add-ons: scatter the chopped crispy bacon piece(s) and 1 tablespoon crispy fried onions on top for extra crunch and smoky flavor.

Finish and Serve

10

Serve the 1/4# Cowboy Up hot dog immediately while hot. Provide extra napkins — this is a hearty, saucy sandwich.

11

Suggested accompaniments: kettle chips or seasoned fries and a cold soda or beer.
