Method

Cocktail

1

Chill mug

If possible, chill a copper mule mug or highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before making the drink. This keeps the cocktail cold longer and enhances mouthfeel.

2

Add ice

Fill the chilled mug or glass about three-quarters full with cubed ice (approximately 1 cup).

3

Measure and pour

Pour 2 oz vodka and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice over the ice. If you prefer a slightly sweeter mule, add 0.25 oz simple syrup.

4

Top with ginger beer

Gently pour 4 oz ginger beer into the mug. Pour slowly to preserve carbonation and to avoid overflowing.

5

Stir gently

Use a bar spoon or a straw to stir the drink gently 2–3 times to combine the vodka, lime and ginger beer without dissipating too much fizz.

6

Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel on the rim and, if using, a fresh mint sprig. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick.

7

Notes on variations

Adjust lime and simple syrup to taste. For a spicy mule, add 2–4 thin slices of fresh ginger or use a spicier ginger beer; for a fruit variation, muddle a few berries or use a flavored vodka.
