Method
Cocktail
Combine Ingredients
Add 2 oz rye whiskey, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz ginger liqueur, 0.5 oz falernum, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 0.25 oz simple syrup (if using) into a mixing glass.
Add Ice
Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with large ice cubes to chill and dilute properly.
Strain
Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain into a chilled coupe or an Old-Fashioned glass over one large ice cube (for a slower melt) or neat in a coupe for a sipper.
Garnish & Finish
Express a lime peel over the drink to release oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it in (or float a lime wheel). Add candied ginger on a pick if desired.
Serve immediately. Taste and, if you find it too tart or spicy, add 0.25 oz simple syrup to the mixing glass on future pours to adjust balance.
