Method

Garnish & Glass Prep

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Choose a chilled rocks or coupe glass. Rub the lime wedge around the outer rim of the glass to moisten it, then lightly dip the rim into the coarse salt laid out on a small plate so salt adheres evenly. Set the glass aside.

Cocktail

  1. 2

    Measure and combine

Into a cocktail shaker add 2 oz Herradura Double Barrel Reposado tequila, 1 oz Cointreau, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 0.25 oz cold water. The small amount of water slightly mellows and opens the flavors for a smoother, more balanced profile.

  2. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with about 8 large ice cubes (enough to chill quickly). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This dilutes the cocktail to the intended balance and brings out the tequila's nuances.

  3. 4

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the mixture into the prepared chilled, salted-rim glass over either one large ice cube (for a rocks presentation) or no ice (for a neat coupe). Double-straining removes small ice chips and pulp for a silky mouthfeel.

  4. 5

    Garnish

Express a lime wheel or twist over the drink to release oils, then drop the wheel onto the rim or float it on top. Serve immediately.
