Cocktail
Chill glass
If desired, place a rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and cold water while you prepare the drink to lightly chill it.
Combine ingredients
Add the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth to a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled about two-thirds with ice. Use equal parts (1 oz each) for a classic Negroni.
Prepare glass
If you chilled the glass in the freezer, remove it now. If you used ice and water to chill, discard that ice and water. Add one large ice cube or a few fresh medium-sized ice cubes to the rocks glass.
Strain
Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the fresh ice using a Hawthorne or julep strainer (or the mixing glass's built-in strainer).
Serve
Serve immediately. Provide a short stirring swizzle or small straw if desired, but the cocktail is traditionally presented ready-to-drink.
