Method
Cheese & Charcuterie
Prepare cheeses
Remove cheeses from the refrigerator 20–30 minutes before serving so they come to near room temperature. Slice the aged cheddar into 1/2-inch slices and the Manchego into wedges. Keep the goat cheese log whole for presentation; optionally roll the exposed log in everything bagel seasoning (1 tsp) to coat the outside.
Arrange cured meats
Fold or loosely roll prosciutto slices into ribbons and fan salami/soppressata slices. This creates visual height and makes it easy to pick up without tearing.
Crisps & Bread
If your baguette slices are not yet toasted, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange slices on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake 6–8 minutes until lightly golden and crisp. Let cool. Place water crackers and multigrain crackers in small stacks or fanned out on the board for variety.
Sweet & Savory Accents
Place fig jam in a small bowl or jar and honey in a separate small spoonable dish. Halve dried apricots and set near cheeses that pair well with sweetness (goat cheese, Manchego). Scatter Marcona almonds and mixed olives into small bowls or piles on the board. Position cornichons near the meats for a bright, acidic counterpoint.
Fresh & Herb
Rinse grapes and pat dry; leave some on the stem for a nicer look. If using a bed of arugula or baby greens, arrange a small handful where you want a green accent (do not overdress). Tuck rosemary and thyme sprigs throughout the board to add aroma and visual interest.
Toasted Nuts & Extras (optional)
Lightly toast walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring, until fragrant (2–3 minutes). Cool slightly and scatter near cheeses or in a small bowl. If you dusted the goat cheese with everything seasoning, place it front-and-center for guests to spread on crackers or bread.
Assembly & Serving
Select a large wooden board or platter. Begin by placing cheese pieces spaced around the board to anchor the layout. Add small bowls for jam, honey, olives, and nuts. Fan and arrange meats next to cheeses that pair well (prosciutto with melon or soft cheeses; salami with aged cheddar). Fill gaps with crackers, toasted baguette slices, dried apricots, grapes, and cornichons. Tuck herb sprigs and arugula around edges for color. Provide cheese knives and small spoons for condiments. Serve immediately so cheeses are at ideal texture.
