Method
Prepare Water and Coffee
Heat water
Pour 12 oz (about 355 ml) fresh cold water into a kettle or saucepan. Heat until just off boiling (about 195–205°F / 90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.
Measure coffee
Place 2 tablespoons of freshly ground coffee (medium grind) into your chosen brewer: coffee maker basket, French press, or pour-over cone with filter.
Brew Coffee
Pour-over / Drip
If using pour-over or drip: wet the filter briefly to remove papery taste and preheat the vessel. Add grounds, then pour a small amount of hot water to wet the grounds (bloom) for 30–45 seconds. Continue pouring the remaining water in slow circular motions until you reach 12 oz. Total brew time should be about 2.5–4 minutes.
French Press
If using French press: add hot water directly to the grounds, stir gently to saturate, and let steep for 3:30–4 minutes. After steeping, press the plunger down slowly and steadily.
Automatic Drip Coffee Maker
If using an automatic coffee maker: add water to the reservoir and start the machine. The brew will complete automatically; aim for about 12 oz brewed coffee.
Customize and Serve
Garnish: If desired, sprinkle a small pinch (about 1/4 tsp) of ground cinnamon or cocoa on top.
Serve immediately. Adjust additions to taste for future cups (more or less coffee, milk, or sweetener).
