Method
Coffee
Measure and weigh
Weigh or measure 0.33 cups (about 15 g) of whole clean coffee beans per 12 fl oz cup. If you prefer stronger coffee, increase to 20 g per 12 fl oz.
Grind
Grind the beans to the appropriate grind size for your brew method: coarse for French press, medium-coarse for pour-over, medium for automatic drip, and fine for espresso. Grind immediately before brewing to preserve freshness.
Bloom (for pour-over methods)
If using pour-over: place the ground coffee in the filter. Pour just enough hot water (about twice the weight of grounds; roughly 30-40 ml) to saturate grounds and let sit 30-45 seconds to allow CO2 to escape (bloom).
Water
Heat water
Heat filtered water to 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don’t have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds. Use 12 fl oz (about 355 ml) of water per 15 g of coffee as a starting ratio (roughly 1:24).
Rinse filter (if applicable)
If using a paper filter, rinse it with hot water to remove paper taste and preheat your brewer. Discard rinse water before brewing.
Brew
Pour hot water over the grounds according to your brew method: - Pour-over: after bloom, pour remaining water in slow, circular motions until reaching 12 fl oz. - French press: pour all water, stir gently, place lid and steep 4 minutes then press. - Drip machine: start the cycle and let it complete. - Espresso: pull a 25–30 second shot using fine espresso grind and approximately 9–10 g for a single shot (adjust proportionally).
Finish
Serve
Immediately pour brewed coffee into a pre-warmed mug to preserve temperature and flavor. If using a carafe, decant to avoid over-extraction from grounds.
Storage of beans
Store remaining whole beans in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dark place. Avoid refrigeration and freezing for daily-use quantities to maintain purity and flavor.
