Fried Pickle Spears
Method
Preparation
Prepare the Pickles
Slice the kosher dill pickles into spears.
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate bowls, set up your breading station: one with flour, one with a mixture of masa harina, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper, and one with beaten eggs mixed with buttermilk.
Bread the Pickle Spears
Dip each pickle spear first into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with the masa harina mixture.
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Pickle Spears
Carefully add the breaded pickle spears to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve
Serve hot with ranch dressing for dipping.
