Hashbrown Preparation Steps
1. Prepare the Potatoes
Peel and grate the russet potatoes using a box grater or food processor. Rinse the grated potatoes in cold water to remove excess starch, then drain well and pat dry with a clean kitchen towel.
2. Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, salt, black pepper, and finely chopped onion (if using). Mix well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.
3. Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
4. Cook the Hashbrowns
Add the grated potato mixture to the skillet, spreading it out evenly. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Flip the hashbrowns using a spatula and cook the other side for another 5-7 minutes.
