Brandy

Optional Serving & Garnish

Method

Brandy

  1. 1

    Select and measure

Choose a good-quality aged brandy such as Asbach Uralt. Measure approximately 1 cup (about 240 ml) per 4 servings or scale to the number of servings required. Pour the brandy into a clean decanter or bottle if you prefer to serve from a decanter.

  2. 2

    Temperature and glassware

Serve brandy slightly below room temperature or gently warmed to release aromas. For chilled serving, place brandy in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes. For traditional serving, warm the brandy by cupping the snifter in your hands for 30–60 seconds. Choose a brandy snifter or tulip glass to concentrate aromas.

Optional Serving & Garnish

  1. 3

    On the rocks

If serving on the rocks, add 1–2 large ice cubes to each glass. Pour about 1.5–2 ounces (45–60 ml) of brandy per serving over the ice. Swirl gently to chill and slightly dilute, then serve.

  2. 4

    Neat

If serving neat, pour 1.5–2 ounces (45–60 ml) of brandy into a warmed snifter. Swirl gently, inhale the aroma, then sip slowly to appreciate the flavors.

  3. 5

    With a twist

For a citrus accent, express an orange or lemon twist over the brandy: hold the twist skin-side down above the glass and give it a quick squeeze to release oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass.
