Pizza Dough
Method
Pizza Assembly and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- 3
Preheat the Oven
If using a wood-fired oven, preheat to approximately 900°F (482°C). For a conventional oven, preheat to 475°F (245°C).
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 2-4 equal portions. On a floured surface, stretch each portion into a round shape about 10-12 inches in diameter.
- 5
Add Toppings
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Top with fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh basil leaves, and a drizzle of olive oil.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 7
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot.
