Cocktail

1

Prep the glass (optional)

If you like a smoky-salty rim, pour the smoked salt onto a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then dip the rim lightly into the smoked salt. Set the glass aside to chill.

2

Combine ingredients

In a shaker, add 1.5 oz Montelobos mezcal, 0.5 oz Corazón Blanco tequila, 0.5 oz agave syrup, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 2 dashes orange bitters and 1 dash Angostura bitters.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly pack it, roughly 1 cup). Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold and the exterior is frosted.

4

Strain

Strain the cocktail through a fine strainer (or Hawthorne/mesh) into the prepared rocks glass over one large ice cube or a few large ice cubes.

5

Garnish and serve

Express a lime wheel or a charred lime over the drink to release oils: hold the lime over the glass and give it a quick squeeze or torch the cut lime briefly to char. Drop the garnish into the glass. Serve immediately.
