Waffle Batter

1

Preheat and prepare

Preheat a mini waffle maker according to manufacturer instructions (typically takes 3–5 minutes). Lightly brush or spray the plates with neutral oil if the maker is not nonstick.

2

Combine dry ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon fine salt until evenly combined.

3

Combine wet ingredients

In a separate small bowl or measuring cup, beat 1 large egg lightly, then whisk in 3 tablespoons whole milk, 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter (cooled slightly), and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.

4

Make the batter

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a rubber spatula or spoon until just combined; small lumps are fine. Do not overmix. The batter should be thick but pourable; if it seems too thick, add up to 1 tablespoon extra milk.

Cooking & Serving

5

Cook mini waffle bites

Spoon or pipe about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of batter into each cavity of the preheated mini waffle maker so you will get 5 mini waffle bites in total. Close the lid and cook until golden and set, typically 1.5–3 minutes depending on your appliance. Check after 90 seconds to avoid burning. Repeat if your waffle maker only cooks a few at a time.

6

Finish

Transfer cooked waffle bites to a cooling rack for 1–2 minutes to stay crisp. Optionally spread a small amount (1 teaspoon) of unsalted butter on warm bites so it melts into crevices.

7

Serve

Arrange 5 mini waffle bites on a plate. Dust lightly with 1 teaspoon powdered sugar and serve with 2 tablespoons maple syrup on the side for dipping or drizzling. Serve immediately while warm.
