Prepare Hoodie

Pre-wash the hoodie on a gentle cycle and tumble dry or air dry to pre-shrink and remove finishers. Iron or steam flat and use a lint roller to remove fibers. Lay the hoodie on a flat, heat-safe work surface and smooth out wrinkles, ensuring the chest area is flat.

If the hoodie fabric is lightweight or stretchy, cut a 10x6 inch piece of fabric stabilizer or lightweight interfacing and press it to the inside back of the area where the banner logo will sit (center chest). This will reduce stretching during application and provide a stable base.

If the neck seam feels loose, apply seam tape according to manufacturer instructions to the inside neck for a professional finish.

Design and Size

Decide on the banner logo dimensions. A common size for a chest banner logo is 10 inches wide by 3-4 inches high. Measure and mark center of chest: find the midpoint between the shoulders and 3-4 inches below collar depending on neckline depth. Use masking tape to mark a light rectangle as a guide.

Prepare Artwork

If using HTV: create or import your logo vector into the cutting software and mirror the design before cutting. Select appropriate material settings for the HTV color(s) being used. If screen printing: create a stencil or expose a mesh screen with the artwork according to your usual screen-prep process.

Cut and Weed HTV (if using HTV)

Place HTV with shiny carrier sheet facing down on the cutter. Cut the design, then remove excess vinyl with a weeding tool, leaving only the logo on the backing. Use transfer tape to lift the weeded logo from its backing and position it for application.

Prepare Inks / Screen (if screen printing)

Mix plastisol or textile inks to desired colors. Align and tape your stencil or screen over the marked area on the hoodie. Use a pressing pillow under the chest area to accommodate the seam and get even pressure.

Heat Press / Iron HTV Application

Preheat your press or iron to the temperature recommended by the HTV manufacturer (commonly 300-320°F / 150-160°C). Pre-press the chest area for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and flatten seams. Position the HTV banner using the transfer tape, aligning to the taped guideline. Cover with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper. Press with even pressure for the recommended time (typically 10-15 seconds with a heat press or 20-30 seconds with an iron, applying firm, even pressure). Let cool slightly, then slowly peel the carrier or transfer tape according to the HTV instructions (hot, warm, or cold peel).

Screen Print Application

Place the screen in position and use a squeegee to flood the ink across the stencil, then pull firmly to transfer ink through the mesh onto the hoodie. For multi-color banners, register subsequent screens carefully and flash-cure between colors if needed. After final ink pass, cure the print with a heat press or conveyor dryer to the ink manufacturer's recommended temperature (commonly 320°F / 160°C for plastisol) to ensure washfastness.

For applique or layered pieces, use fabric-safe adhesive along the edges as needed before pressing to keep pieces from lifting; follow with final pressing to set.

Inspect the applied logo for any lifting edges or imperfections. Re-press any edges with a protective sheet if needed. Remove any stray fibers with the lint roller. Trim loose threads.

Let the hoodie rest for at least 24 hours before the first wash. Provide care instructions: wash inside out on cold, gentle cycle; tumble dry low or air dry; avoid ironing directly on the logo (use a protective cloth if pressing over the area).

Package or hang the banner logo hoodie on a sturdy hanger to maintain shape.
